According to current scientific understanding, the universe is around 13.7 billion years old.
Let’s not create straw men then set them aflame.
These are the actual facts based on the current understandings of science:
The earth, initially far too hot and fiery for liquid water to condense, and thus neither dark nor watery.
And we know this “extreme age of the universe” to be correct via a simple proof:

According to current scientific understanding, the first more complex organisms, such as eukaryotes, appeared around 1.7 to 2.0 billion years ago. This is when the first cells with a nucleus evolved, marking a significant step in the development of complex life. But these were also organisms without skeletons or brains.
However, the actual order of creation is in complete disagreement with the bible’s fairytale.
According to current scientific understanding, animals with skeletons began to appear around 550 million years ago, during the late Ediacaran period, with the most significant diversification of skeletal animals occurring during the Cambrian Explosion which began roughly 540 million years ago.

No one with any understanding of evolution is claiming that the earth is anywhere close to “10 billion years old,” or that there was life on a non-existent planet 10 billion years ago.

If the most distant stars were not billions of years old, their light (which travels at a known speed) would not have reached us yet, and the night sky would be much darker.

People who believe the bible’s creation myth and claim it’s “compatible” with science are deluded.
Because the bible says a dark, watery earth existed before the rest of the universe was created, including our sun, and that trees grew on earth before the sun was created.
According to current scientific understanding, animals with brains first appeared on earth around 520 million years ago during the Cambrian period, with fossil evidence of preserved brain tissue found in creatures from this era.
